MEALS for CHANGE

Since our beginnings, Life-Gate have provided hot meals – out on the streets of our community – as part of our street outreach service. While we’re not primarily a meal provider, we have found the meals are a wonderful way of connecting with families in need and building trust and rapport as we seek to provide assistance to those living in crisis situations.

In 2018 we launched the ‘MEALS for CHANGE’ mobile kitchen trailer. This fully-equipped trailer enables our team to provide more meals in less time, giving our trained outreach workers more opportunity to provide counselling, referrals and assistance to those who come along. This resource was a showcase of community collaboration at its finest: federal and local government, local businesses and corporations, community members and volunteers all coming together to design, fund-raise and build the mobile kitchen.

We are especially thankful for our major sponsor, Karingal Hub, for their generosity, and for our community partner Chisholm TAFE, whose commercial cookery students provide many of the meals our team serve to those in need.

Where can you find us?

If you (or someone you love) is looking for assistance with meals, you can join us for one of our free community BBQ events. Our MEALS for CHANGE trailer operates at the Young Street carpark (next door to Tasman Meats) in Frankston on the first and third Friday of each month.

Please note, our trailer does not operate in January each year, as we like to give our incredibly hardworking volunteers a chance to rest before another busy year begins!
